Why Is My Heat Pump Tripping Its Breaker in Anderson, CA?

Your circuit breaker is an all-important safety tool that exists to prevent dangerously high amounts of power from traveling across your electrical wiring. Ordinarily, the heat pump in your Anderson, CA, home shouldn’t pull nearly enough power to trip it. Here are a few reasons your heat pump might nevertheless trip the breaker:

Poor Airflow

Without sufficient airflow, your heat pump will have difficulty pushing treated air into your home. Consequently, it’ll be harder for the system to create the changes you desire in your home’s indoor temperatures, which may lead your thermostat to push it to work even harder and absorb more electrical power. Possibly, this may become a serious enough issue to trip your breaker.

Debris may hinder airflow if too much of it gets into either your air filters or some other critical parts of your system. Though you should change your filters on your own at least once every three months, you’ll also need maintenance services to remove debris from your heat pump. You may also notice reduced airflow if your system’s fan motor fails.

Inadequate Electrical Connections

If any of your system’s wires fray, come loose or lose their insulation, a short circuit can result. This can easily trigger your circuit breaker.

Old Heat Pump Breaker

Finally, if your heat pump trips your breaker, the reason may have nothing to do with your system whatsoever. Instead, your breaker may be to blame.

A circuit breaker may last anywhere from 20 to 40 years. If yours has been in service for that long, it may not be able to handle the amount of power that your heat pump needs to consume, even during completely typical operations. You’ll need to replace your old breaker.

If your heat pump continues to trip your circuit breaker, this will create an untenable situation for you. It’ll be extremely difficult, if not impossible, to stay cool in Anderson, CA, this summer under such conditions. To set things right, call Cascade Comfort Service, Inc. and request our heat pump services.
